Winter Activities

Christmas is just around the corner with only 50 days to go! It is a time of festive cheer when all the family get together and celebrate. There are many activities available to do for the build up towards Christmas in the UK. Many great locations to visit in the festive season include Devon, Cornwall, the Lake District and Scotland. These are areas of beauty all year round but especially when they are dusted with snow. These locations provide you with exquisite Christmas markets and fairs, festive balls, ice skating and of course Santa’s grotto.

In Winter, Devon is transformed into a mystical landscape with frosted trees and snowy hillsides. There are excellent activities that devon holds over the Christmas period which include the Mistletoe Ball at the Grand Hotel, Torquay, Santa’s Christmas Grotto in the Fleetwalk Shopping Centre, the Polar Express South at Dartmoor Railway, and the Christmas Starlight at Babbacombe Theatre. These activities are great for families and couples to enjoy.


Cornwall’s coast and countryside is transformed in the Winter with their woods and creeks turning into icy wonderlands. Festive activities are a great experience for anyone in Cornwall as they are host to a variety of events and activities from Ice Skating at the Eden Project, Krowji Christmas 2012 Open Studios, Trereife House Christmas Gifts Fair and St Austell’s Christmas Festival. You will be able to find some excellent gifts and have fun skating at the Eden Project.

If you are looking for a location that is big on Christmas fairs in the Winter then the Lake District is the perfect place to go. They have an abundance of fairs including the Spirit of Christmas Gift Fair, Hawkshead Christmas Fair, Traditional Christmas Fayre in Keswick, and Cartmel Christmas Food Market. Each fair has a variety of products from unique gifts to spectacular Christmas food.

Scotland’s highlands are beautiful in the Winter covered in snow. It is a great location for the whole family to visit. Various festive events include the Christmas Shopping Fayre at Stirling Castle, The Traditional German Christmas Market in Edinburgh, The Real Scottish Christmas Fair and the Ice Rink in East Princes Street Gardens, Edinburgh.
