Rainy days and Sundays

Now we’re still optimistic that the UK will see a glorious summer, but just in case there’s the odd day of rain, here are some rainproof activities to enjoy.

Sandcastle Waterpark in Blackpool, Lancashire
Okay so when we said rainproof we didn’t necessarily mean waterproof, because this first suggestion is clearly all about getting wet. But that’s fine because it doesn’t involve getting caught in a torrential downpour. Instead it’s all about having a huge amount of fun at Blackpool’s indoor water park. By the way it’s apparently the UK’s largest.

So what can you expect? Something akin to Florida’s water parks, but indoors. Sandcastle Waterpark has plenty of exhilarating water rides, twisty-turny chutes and lots of pools in a themed tropical setting.

Rock UK Summit Centre in Trelewis, South Glamorgan
The Rock UK Summit Centre boasts an 18 metre-high indoor climbing wall. So obviously a head for heights is required here, but the centre also has a man-made caving system, complete with its own waterfall. Ah best to avoid if small, enclosed spaces aren’t your thing. Anyway moving swiftly on, the centre also has many outdoor activities on offer to make the most of those glimpses of sunshine.

Sea Life Centre in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk
Another water themed attraction, but this time it’s all about the water’s inhabitants as opposed to splashing around yourselves. Great Yarmouth’s Sea Life Centre features over 1,000 creatures including sharks, penguins and teeny tiny seahorses. You can walk through the million-litre underwater tank without getting wet and interact with starfish in the rock pool. Feed other sea creatures and let shrimp nibble at your fingers in the tropical rock pool.

So there you have it, plenty of attractions that don’t require umbrellas or wellington boots to have a good time.
